To determine the number of viable (living) microorganisms present in a biofertilizer sample, expressed as colony-forming units (CFU) per gram or per milliliter of the product. The Population count method is based on the ability of living microorganisms in the biofertilizer to grow and form visible colonies when cultured on a suitable nutrient medium under optimal incubation conditions. Each colony originates from a single viable cell or a clump of cells.
